Peer support for Parent Carers

Many Parent Carers benefit from the support of other parents in a similar position.  Support is available through face-to-face groups, and increasingly through online forums.

Some support groups are related to a particular condition, and others offer more general support, or support around specific issues, for example, securing suitable education.

The charity Contact: for families with disabled children runs a closed Facebook group for parents and carers of disabled children, and is a place for members to chat, listen and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment.

Run by Merton Mencap, membership of the forum offers a chance to share your experiences with other parents, meet professionals and hear expert advice. You can find out more and download a registration form from the Merton Mencap website.

Support Groups for specific conditions

Contact: for families with disabled children has an A – Z directory of conditions, including those that are rare. As well as information about the condition, they list any UK organizations or support groups which exist.
