A group of 16 young carers (aged 11-17) had a blast at Chessington World of Adventures during the May half term holiday.

As part of our Social Action project, five members of the Young Carers Committee escorted 11 young carers (currently in year 6) along to the theme park, where they braved the wet weather, and the queues, to have a fantastic time, and get to know one another.

One of the focuses of the project, which has been developed by the Young Carers Committee, is peer support. Recognising the particular needs of young carers transitioning to secondary school, Committee members successfully acquired funding (through London Youth's City Leaders Scheme) to run the activity. As part of the application for funding, a small crack team of young- and young adult carers prepared and delivered a fantastic, informative presentation for Cassie Doerfler-Heath (Youth Action Delivery Officer at London Youth), who was suitably impressed.

In addition to offering a great opportunity for peer support, the trip served as a chance for the mentors to gather ideas for the 'Year 6 Transition Workshop', which is in the process of being developed by the YC Committee.

A massive thank you to all involved in the planning of this AMAZING event! A great time was had by all!!
