A group of Merton's Young Adult Carers visited Kingston University in April for a Taster Day hosted by KU Cares (a support organisation that offers support to Young Adult Carers and care leavers who are either applying to, or are current students at the university).

Attendees had the opportunity to meet current staff and students (including an inspirational Young Adult Carer in the final year of her degree at Kingston, who was able to share her experience with the group), enjoyed a delicious meal in the canteen, and were given valuable information about:

  • Degrees and careers
  • Different routes to university
  • Goal setting
  • Balancing caring with studies
  • Student life and support available
  • Resilience and stress management

Among those attending the event, six are now considering applying to university, with three of these looking to apply to Kingston University itself!

A HUGE THANK YOU to Beth, Robert and the rest of the team at KU Cares for arranging to event, which was funded by Lloyds Foundation.
